Hi, I’m 15 years old and want to start racing. How can I get into it as an eager young driver?
Start simple. STEC Light is the perfect entry point, where you can drive regular cars without any modifications on safe tracks at a reasonable speed. We also encourage you to take the youth courses, which you can read more about here
Hi, I'm 50 years old, have never raced before, but I love racing and now I want to start. How do I begin?
The great thing about racing is that it’s almost ageless. Our youngest drivers are as young as 14, and our oldest are well over 70. They all have one thing in common – they all once drove their first race, and they all remember it. At STEC Motorsport, we take pride in making racing accessible to as many people as possible, for as long as possible.
Hi, I’m wondering what personal equipment I need for racing?
Nothing is more important than your safety. With a racing suit, gloves, shoes, and a good helmet, you have fire protection while also investing in equipment that will easily last up to 10 years. Plus, you’ll feel like a racing king every time you fasten your helmet and tie your racing shoes. A complete package costs 2,995 SEK, or you can rent it initially for 500 SEK.
What kind of car should I start with?
There’s no simple answer to this, as every driver has different preferences and ideas. However, in general, the car shouldn’t cost more than half of your yearly budget. Let’s break it down! STEC is built on grassroots racing or hobby racing, which means that many people should be able to participate. Therefore, the regulations allow you to race almost any car, but certain safety rules apply. A budget series typically costs around 50,000 SEK per season, so ideally, the car itself shouldn't cost more than 25,000 SEK. Of course, it also depends on whether you’re racing sprint (alone) or competing in 2, 4, or 6-hour endurance races, where the cost is shared among the team. If you choose a budget-friendly car, your money will often last longer, allowing you to complete the full series and participate in all races. A discounted season pass can be booked here.
What do you need to bring with you to a race or training?
There is a rule within the STEC pit area: We help each other!!! Some teams bring a trailer full of gear, while others come with just a tarp as a ground mat, a fire extinguisher, a couple of spare tires, a toolbox, and jack stands. Some bring chairs, caravans, and set up a mini campsite, while most just come in the morning and leave in the evening. But again, we recommend starting simple because you rarely need to bring an entire workshop or have engineers with you in STEC.
Can I take any courses on mechanics and racing?
Absolutely, STEC offers both mechanic and racing courses. Above all, we are known for our training days with driver coaching, which is perfect for driving with an instructor.
Can I come and see how this works without driving or booking anything?
We’d love to have you! Please get in touch, and we can arrange for you to get guidance and information. Because it’s really great to come and learn how everything works.
How is the driving? Are there a lot of crashes, and how fast do you drive in STEC?
Respect is a very important word at the drivers' meeting and during the race. We should NOT crash into each other but show consideration. Let faster drivers pass, watch how they drive, and follow their line—it’s always more fun to chase than to be chased around the track. Speed in racing is usually as fast as you can go, but in endurance racing, you must preserve your tires and brakes. And don’t forget, engine braking is your best friend in endurance.
I’m alone but would love to race in a team, how should I do it?
STEC builds networks, so you can join alone or bring your entire company or family to race in STEC. For us, it’s important that everyone gets the chance to participate.
Can I buy a gift card and let someone else race as a present?
Absolutely! It’s a highly appreciated gift to give.
Is there food, coffee, and something for us as spectators?
We’d love for you to come! We always arrange the best seating, and there’s always food and drinks available at the tracks. The arenas always make an extra effort during STEC events.
How do you pay to participate and race?
STEC provides all types of payment solutions, and if you prefer an invoice, that’s no problem. Just make sure to register in time so we can arrange everything for you.
Can I obtain a racing license through STEC, and can I use my old license?
We encourage everyone to gain knowledge by taking the STEC driver training course, regardless of previous driving experience. STEC always strives to have highly competent instructors. A license is required to drive a race car, as it includes the essential motorsport insurance, which is legally mandated for motorsport. If you have another license, talk to us about it, and we will issue a license based on your skill level. But don’t worry—no matter what, we don’t exclude drivers from the track; instead, we educate rather than exclude.

What do you mean by Fair racing?
STEC arbetar för att få fram en så rättvis racing som möjligt. Detta för att man ska kunna som förare kunna vara skillnaden och inte enbart en materialsport även om detta naturligtvis är en stor del av insatsen som vi kallar garagekunskapen. Vi mäter vikten på bilen och mäter hästkraften och på så sätt får vi fram ett nummer som vi sen klassar in i 3 olika klasser Snabb , Snabbare ,snabbast. och på så sätt får du tävla emot ungefär lika snabba bilar som din egen. läs mer om detta på sidan som heter just ” Rättvis racing” click
STEC har ni fulla försäkringar och sjukvården berätta om den ?
STEC har lagt mycket energi på att hela tiden arbeta med det förbättringsarbete som är ett levande forum. På varje tävling finns exempelvis sjukvård , räddningsbil , och en mycket kompetent funktionärsstab. Fullständiga motortävlingsförsäkringar finns både för förare och tredje part genom Folksam. Kan man välja att köra 1 eller 2 lopp eller måste man köra samtliga?
Det är helt fritt att välja vilka race som passar dig/er bäst absolut.
Kan man verkligen vara med och tävla utan att vara miljonär?
Absout STEC motorsport är ekonomirace. Bilarna är roliga att köra, och man får verkligen valuta på för pengarna. Bilen och din personliga säkerhetsutrustning är ju en engångskostnad. . Delar till bilen är förhållandevis billiga och de alla tävlingar körs på en dag. Så man behöver inte många övernattningar vid tävlingar. Bensin köper du på bensinstationen.
